A few weeks ago I applied and got approved to host a Hosties party. The sponsor was Michael’s Craft store. I had never heard of Hosties until this but I jumped at the chance to host a craft party and get some free supplies to do it. When you become a host for a Hosties party you get all kinds of goodies, in this case a $75 gift card and 40% off coupons to use in our Michael’s Craft Store shopping trip to buy supplies for our party.
We were given the choice of crafts to do but in the end we came up with our own project, a decorated wooden trinket box. Since we were hosting kids we thought they would like that best and it would let them take something home they could actually use in the future.
We went off to shop at our local Michael’s Craft Store here in Connecticut and after about an hour we had the supplies we needed for our upcoming craft party. We bought the wooden boxes – so affordable at $2.99 each – glitter glue in tubes, paint brushes, Crayola Washable Kids Paint, felt and all kinds of embellishments.

Crayola Washable Kids Paints from Michael’s Crafts Store
Once the kids arrived at the party we set out newspapers on the table and let them start by using the Crayola Washable paints to pain their wooden boxes. These paints are great because when someone spills some on the rug – hint, hint – it cleaned up easily. And, the colors are nice and bright and fun for painting wooden boxes.
The kids really got into this project and each one came up with a different color combination.
Some of the boxes took longer to dry so I pulled out the hair dryer and helped them along.
While we waited for the boxes to dry the kids then picked out the embellishments they wanted to use. We bought a good variety so everyone got something they wanted. I think there were only about 10 pieces left at the end of the day.
The next part of our project was to add the embellishments. We bought stick-ons because it make it easier and less messy. Some of the kids used the glitter glue. I do suggest buying that instead of trying to use glue and glitter. It is so much easier. The tubes of glitter glue we bought had points to make putting it on easy too.
Our Michael’s “Hosties” Craft Party took about 2 hours and when we were done each child had a fun craft or trinket box to take home. We had a great time and ate lots of candy, popcorn, and drinks too. What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
Disclaimer: We were chosen one of the 500 people that applied to host a Hosties Michael’s Craft Party. You can apply the next time you see a Hosties party being offered and maybe you will get to have a fun party too.
