How to Add Pinterest to A Facebook Fan Page

With the new Facebook Timeline and Pinterest becoming the hottest thing in social networking, why not add Pinterest to Facebook. It’s easy and if you are a blogger you can show the things you have been working on through your Pinterest pins and boards on your Facebook page. When the timeline kicks in for Facebook fan pages you will be able to have it show in the timeline so viewers can easily see what you have been pinning and join in.

April 16, 2012 Update: We found a new way to add Pinterest to Facebook that takes about 2 minutes and let’s you link to one board if you want. It works perfect. Check this new post for details

April 2, 2012 Update: I updated these instructions based on the new Facebook Timeline. If you see a problem with them please let me know.

Note: this only works if you have a Facebook fan page. It does not work on a personal Facebook pages.

It may not work to link just to a specific board on your Pinterest account. If you get a blank screen then that means you can’t link to a specific board and you will have to link to just your main Pinterest account.

Remember, using Pinterest is a great way to drive traffic back to your blog posts.

Create an App on Facebook

1. Go to and click Create New App at the top right.

2. Type a name in the App Name box. I named mine Pinterest button.

Fill in the Basic Info Section:

1. Type a name for your App. I put Pinterest.

2. Type your email address if it isn’t already in the box.

Fill in the Website Section:

1. Click next to the Website section to open it and view the box to fill out.

2. Type the URL for the Pinterest account or board you want to link to. I only wanted to link to the Connecticut board I created so it looks like this

Fill in the Page Tab Facebook Section:

In the Page Tab section type your Pinterest URL in both of the Page Tab URL boxes. In the Secure Page Tab URL box make sure to type an s after http. Do not add the slash after the URL in these boxes.

You can choose to show Pinterest narrow or wide. I chose wide to fill the whole page.

Add the Pinterest App to Your Facebook Fan Page:

Now you will need to copy and paste this URL and then modify it to link your new app to your Facebook Fan page timeline.

Where you see 404137736263006 above you will need to change that to your app number.  You will find your app number back on the page above where you created the app. Look for the number at the top of the page.

You MUST change the number. If you use mine it won’t work for you.

Next, change to the link to your Pinterest account or board. Make sure to include the / at the end

If you typed the URL correctly, when you press Enter it will show a screen like this. Select the Facebook Fan page you want to add your new Pinterest App to and click Add Page Tab.

  1. You have to be extremely careful to avoid accidental spaces and DO NOT take out the http:// before putting in your mobile pinterest info LOL. Thank you for such a great walk-through for us and I am thankful that I finally found and fixed my errors 🙂

  2. So helpful, thank you. I’ll pin this tutorial.

  3. This was a fantastic guide, thank you!

  4. Hi,

thanks so much, it must be pinned to my board as well… great info…

  5. Thank you. This was most helpful and very easy to follow.

  6. Thanks a lot! I just added a pinterest button to my FB page and it worked greatly! Excellent instructions!

  7. I read this article with great interest and followed the instructions carefully. Unfortunately I was not able to get it to work properly. I got all the way to the end and installed the app, but could only get a blank screen when viewing it, so I changed the settings to include my whole Pinterest page and not just one gallery, which I could then view.

I thought this would have to do, but I got someone else to check if it worked, which it did, but they were able to log in to my Pinterest and change all my details! I’ve no idea why this would happen, so I’ve deleted the app from my page, which is a shame because I really wanted to get it to work. Any ideas would be really helpful.

My page is: – but you won’t now see the app because i temporarily hid it.

I wish this method would allow for linking to just one board. Maybe I will find another method soon and will post that if I find it. I don’t know why they would be able to log into your Pinterest account though. That is very odd. Nowhere in the instructions does it ask you to put your user name and password in. They just get a link to your Pinterest board as if you were giving it to them directly so I don’t see a way they could log in.

Love your Facebook fan page. It is set up very nice and the graphics are great

Everything seems straight forward until I get to the ‘Add the Pinterest App to Your Facebook Fan Page’ step. Where am I supposed to past that URL? I pasted my modified version into the ‘Page Tab Edit URL’ field and hit enter but the only thing that happens is I get the ‘Changes saved. Note that your changes may take several minutes to propagate to all servers.’ message at the top of the page. There’s no option for me to add it to my fan page. Please help as I’ve tried and tried to get this to work. Thanks!

    • Connecticut Bloggers says:

You have to go to the next step and type the URL in your browser and change out my app number for yours and my Pinterest URL for yours to then add it to a page. Give me your app number and Pinterest URL and I will give you the link

    • I waited 5 mins, reloaded my browser and nothing, then I closed it out, logged back in and tried it – it was there. Try that

  9. This is the error i keep receiving

Secure Canvas URL must use SSL and begin with https.

  10. Thank you for the AWESOME tutorial. Now I need to go brag about how I created a new app.

  11. Hey guys! Thanks for the great app tutorial. I do have to say that I followed all the steps, but when I click on the doesn’t have anything linked. It’s just empty. Any thoughts?

Rania, I can’t tell for sure but I did look in the code and see “sweetiessweeps” and that is my Pinterest board. Recheck your links in the app and make sure you are putting your Pinterest board in all of them and not mine. Wendy

  12. API Error Code: 191
API Error Description: The specified URL is not owned by the application
Error Message: redirect_uri is not owned by the application.

I’m awful at this stuff but I did get all the way to entering the URL in a new browser….I changed the number and changed the pinterest address to my board.

Hi there, I followed all of your instructions (correctly I hope!) but I get the following error

    Forbidden (403)
    CSRF verification failed. Request aborted.
More information is available with DEBUG=True.

This happens when I click on the pinterest icon I added to my page. Are you able to offer any advice as to what may be wrong? Thank you

  14. Jill Manty says:

I’m setting this up for a friend. Got all the way to the end – the tab is there. When I click on it, I get this error:

  15. Hi There,
Ohh I’m so frustrated. I’ve been at this for a few days now… I appreciate the guide and unfortunately no matter what I do I keep getting an error “This content cannot be displayed in a frame. What you can try: Open this content in a new window”–and it gives an active link to my Pinterest board. So.. how do I get past this? I’ve tried everything… can’t get there. All the links work. Everything should be correct. Any ideas or help is appreciated.
    Thank you!

  16. I am having trouble getting the app authorized. everything is there but when i go to the page it just says “Unauthorized”. suggestions?

  17. Incredible! This blog looks just like my old one!
It’s on a entirely different topic but it has pretty much the same page layout and design. Excellent choice of colors!

  18. Hi there, i read your blog occasionally and i own a
similar one and i was just curious if you get a lot of spam
responses? If so how do you stop it, any plugin or
anything you can suggest? I get so much lately it’s driving me crazy so any support is very much appreciated.

    • Connecticut Bloggers says:

I rarely get spam message. I use Askimet. This is a WordPress blog and Askimet is a plugin that usually comes installed. If you use WordPress and don’t have Askimet setup just search for it in Plugins. You have to setup an account at and get a code but it’s free

  19. Interesting tutorial on how to create a Pinterest tab on FB fan page. But how about something much simpler: a Pinterest button that links to my Pinterest page.
